Having a cleaned house that smells divine each time you get from work can have such a positive impact on your entire being. You feel relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to embrace a new day at work. Studies have shown that certain scents can affect a person’s ability to cope with different situations as well as their overall mood.

So why not make your own homemade air fresheners instead of buying chemicals that can worsen your health, mind, and spirit. These recipes are so easy to make and you have every ingredient in your home. It doesn’t take much time and you can choose a scent for each room in your house.


  1. Baking Soda Air Freshener

We all know that baking soda does wonders at keeping bad odors away from your fridge. Nevertheless, it has other properties and one of them is the fact that it can keep your room and sheets fresh. In order to make this natural air freshener, you only need ½ cup of baking soda, an essential oil, according to your preferences, a mason jar, some scrapbook paper, a tapestry needle, scissors, and a pen. Once you pour the baking soda and the oil inside the mason jar, pierce the piece of paper and make holes so the scent comes out.

  1. Scented wood blocks

If you like wood and you want to make a little piece of decor that actually smells divine, you can try making scented wood blocks. You only need a scented oil or perfume, some small pieces of wood, ideally in a square shape, and small paint brushes. All you have to do is to paint and spray the wood blocks and put them in a container. Pour some scented oil and shake well. This type of air freshener lasts for a long time and you can easily pour a little more oil for replacement.  


  1.  Little pouch air freshener

These are great especially if you want to make more than one air freshener and you want to use them in your car, as well. Also, they do wonders for your clothes in the closet. They can be done without too much effort and the process requires only a lightweight fabric, a thick thread, some makeup pads, and scented oils that you would like to smell.

  1. All-purpose cleaning spray

We are all aware that our house is the perfect environment for bacteria and viruses. Especially if you have kids or pets, you know that cleaning the house daily is mandatory. You can use a natural cleaning spray that smells great instead of opting for chemicals. Just get some distilled white vinegar, water, rosemary and lemon oils and shake them all together. There you have it, a gentle all-purpose homemade cleaner.

Having your house smell like a holiday each day is wonderful especially if you use only natural ingredients. Even though you can start cooking and fill your house will all sorts of odors, a preferable alternative is to put a pot of water on the stove and add a few drops of essential oils, such as coffee, black pepper, cardamom, ginger or vanilla.
